Spring Yard Cleanup in Salt Lake County, Utah

The reset that sets up the entire growing season. A real spring cleanup clears the winter debris, resets bed lines, cuts back last year’s perennials, and gives the lawn the headstart it needs before May growth takes off across the Salt Lake Valley.

Why spring cleanup matters in Utah

Utah winters leave a yard in rough shape. Wind blows debris into corners, snow mats down last year’s perennial growth, leaves pile up in beds and along fence lines, and grass smothered under wet leaf cover all winter comes out yellow or dead in spring. Skipping cleanup doesn’t just look bad — the lawn loses two or three weeks of early growth because the debris is still blocking sun and air. By the time things are obvious in May, you’ve lost a chunk of the season.

What’s included in our spring cleanup

When to schedule spring cleanup

The best window in Salt Lake County is late March through early May, after the last hard frost but before the lawn fully takes off. Booking earlier means better date flexibility — the spring schedule fills up fast once temperatures climb. A good rule of thumb: if the snow has been gone for a week and the soil isn’t squelching underfoot, you’re close to the window. Waiting until the lawn already needs its first mow usually means the cleanup gets pushed too late to do much good.

If you also want aeration, this is the second-best window of the year. We can pair the cleanup and aeration on the same visit so the schedule lines up cleanly — debris off first, then the aerator goes over a clean lawn.

Our approach to spring cleanup

Cleanups are where most landscaping companies cut corners. The crew shows up with a blower and a rake, makes a few passes, hauls the visible stuff, and calls it done. We don’t work that way. Our cleanup walkthrough starts at the property line and covers every bed, slope, and hardscape edge before we put a tool down. The goal is for your lawn and beds to look better at the end of cleanup day than they did at any point last fall — not just less debris-covered, but actually reset and ready for the season.

Common questions about spring cleanup

When should I book spring cleanup in Salt Lake County?

The best window is late March through early May, after the last hard frost but before the lawn fully takes off. Booking earlier means more flexibility on dates — the spring schedule fills up fast once temperatures start climbing. We typically reserve into May, and waiting until the lawn already needs its first mow usually means the cleanup gets pushed too late to do much good.

What’s included in your spring cleanup service?

Winter debris and leaf removal across lawn, beds, and hardscape; perennial cut-back where last year’s growth is still standing; a fresh edge along beds and walkways; trim-back of woody perennials and ornamental grasses; gutter check if accessible; and haul-off of all collected material. We can add mulch refresh, aeration, or fertilization scheduling on the same visit.

Should I aerate during spring cleanup?

If your lawn missed fall aeration or is heavily compacted from winter foot traffic, yes — spring aeration in April is a strong second window. We coordinate timing so the aeration happens at the right point in the cleanup, not before debris is cleared off the lawn. See our lawn aeration service for details.

Do you haul away yard waste?

Yes — debris, leaves, sticks, and trimmed material are loaded out at the end of the visit. You don’t end up with bags on the curb waiting for green-waste pickup. The haul-off is included in the cleanup quote.

Can spring cleanup include garden bed prep for new plantings?

We handle the cleanup side — clearing old growth, defining bed lines, turning over the top layer of mulch — but we don’t install plants ourselves. If you’re planning new plantings, schedule cleanup first, then bring in your planting plan; we can coordinate timing with the people doing the install.
